Queens is the easternmost of the five boroughs of New York City and the largest in area and the second-largest in population.
Queens has the same boundaries as Queens County, which is now the second most populous county in New York State and the fourth-most densely populated county in the United States.
Queens is home to two of the three major New York City area airports, JFK International Airport and LaGuardia Airport.
Queens is on the far west section of geographic Long Island and includes a few smaller islands, most of which are in Jamaica Bay forming part of the Gateway National Recreation Area which in turn is one of the National Parks of New York Harbor.
Queens has the second-largest economy of New York City’s five boroughs, second only to Manhattan.
Elementary and secondary school education in Queens is provided by a vast number of public and private institutions. Public schools in the borough are managed by the New York City Department of Education, the largest public school system in the United States. Most private schools are affiliated to or identify themselves with the Roman Catholic or Jewish religious communities.
